Lets talk Clinicians

I think most people want to either audit or ride with George Morris.. I have audited 3 times now and would love to ride with him but am scared shitless to make a fool of myself honestly.

I have also audited 2 Hawley Bennett clinics and that was super cool to watch... a different perspective from an eventer.

I would really like to clinic with some other people, especially my trainers sister! We are working on getting her to set that up :)

Or have Lauren come, that would be AMAZING too but she is pretty swamped so probably won't happen any time soon.

Anywho, I'd like to know who you have or would like to clinic with? Give me your likes and dislikes!!

  1. I'm dying to clinic with Tim Bourke (eventer) -- I've been watching videos from his clinics on Youtube and he's amazing! I'm hoping to clinic with Jimmy Wofford next month!

  2. I would sell my kidney to clinic with Buck Brannaman.

  3. Jeff Cook puts on absolutely amazing clinics and I learned so much both auditing and riding in a clinic a few years ago. He actually was an assistant trainer for GM when he was young, and uses a lot of the same theories, but is much kinder and I think is a better clinician because he focuses more on positives. Ragan Roberts was also fantastic. I actually have a write up of a clinic I rode in and audited with him back in August. He was great at coming up with exercises that were beneficial on all levels, and tailoring his instruction to fit each pair. He expected good riding, but was never mean or cruel.

  4. I actually don't like GM that much and wouldn't want to ride or audit. Personal opinion though. I'd be more interested in Joe Fargis for SJ and William Fox-Pitt for eventing, although I'd love to clinic with Buck again too.

    1. I agree with this re: GM, although I don't know if Amanda has similar thoughts about GM as I do... I just find him very... arrogant and rude. Not a teaching style I would benefit from, especially if I am paying big bucks to ride with him.

    2. I third this sentiment re GM. If he could get his knowledge across in a less assholish way then maybe.

  5. I've never been in a clinic, but honestly, they don't appeal to me that much. I like auditing, but don't have much of a desire to ride in them

  6. I actually really want to do a Buck Brannaman Clinic. He's not english, but I think he could really help me deal with some of Nilla's attitude issues like when she just decides she's not going the direction we need to go and that's it. I've never done any clinic though, so I'd probably be happy to clinic with anyone who isn't GM. He's just too much of an asshole for me.

  7. my experience with clinicians is pretty limited - but so far i've really enjoyed auditing (david o'connor and boyd martin-eventing, stephen birchall-dressage) and have felt that the cost of riding would not necessarily have been worth it, whereas auditing absolutely was. if i had more money tho i'd definitely want to ride lol

  8. Add me to the list of those who'd rather audit. But riding with Mary King would be a lifetime dream come true :)

  9. I know this wasn't an option BUT I'd rather have a private lesson with Anne Kursinski, and Sandy Farrell. Oh throw Tommy Serio in the mix too.

  10. I'd actually like to see Buck in person. Even though my mare isn't set up for dressage, I'd love to see what I could get her to do in a dressage clinic since I'm too weenie to jump much right now.

  11. I don't think I would like doing a clinic with George, not that I ever would. Some of the comments that he make really make me cringe. He seems to have a bit of a fat shaming attitude that I don't appreciate and don't think has a place anywhere, let alone when teaching young minds.
I really, really enjoyed my clinic with Dorothy Cornwell, and will 100% do another one with her given the chance. I have been less than impressed with the judge (can't even think of her name) that comes to do the dressage clinics for the GMO I am part of, though I hope that I can go to the western dressage clinic this year.

  12. I'm afraid of George! There are a lot of riders I admire but I'm not sure about riding with them, unless I had audited first :)

  13. I would probably ride in any jumping/dressage clinic if I could, as long as the clinician wasn't a horse abuser or something. I would love to ride with Anne Kursinski or if Beezie Madden offered lessons I would. I rode in a clinic a long time ago with Ralph Hill (eventer). He was very nice and encouraging.
