Saturday ftw and video from Tuesday :)

First video from Tuesday night... the good, the bad and the ugly ha!

Video 1

Video 2

Thanks Kat for the videos!

Yep feel like this today...

Today's (Saturday's) lesson...

I got to Henry's stall and he was laying down... I tried to get him up and he wouldn't get up. Then I noticed that there were lots of "thrash" marks on the one wall of his stall as well as white paint from the walls all over the left side of him blanket. Called my trainer, she came down, his gums looked ok and eventually he got up and seemed ok. Had gut sounds so I tacked up and got on. He was his normal self THANK THE LORD!

Nicku has these anti-cast safety strips that I plan to get asap.

Onto the lesson... tacked up and hopped on.

We hacked around- there were 6 of us in the lesson today. Henry was pretty good on the flat. I got told to keep him in a frame more but he was NOT cooperating much so I just kept at it and continued to ask lol.

X (going left to right) to the outside oxer to the oxer on the diagonal to the X.

Then we did the X to the outside oxer to the diagonal oxer to the X slight right to the poll roll back to the X to the diagonal oxer right to the outside oxer.

Henry was great, lead changes were there and my trainer said to end on that. Good boy Henry!

Cleaned and put up Henry's new stall name "thing" while he ate his grain and hungout in the cooler.

Said hi to Pongo and ate some grass on the way back to his stall

nom nom nom

Cute boy!

Put him away, filled his water, dropped his extra hay (I changed his food today so he now gets 4 flakes of Alfalfa from the barn (1 bfast, 1 lunch, 2 dinner) and 1 flake of Grass from me), gave kisses and told him to be good.

Turn out tomorrow if the weather behaves!

  1. Sounds like a good day with lots of accomplished during your day. Glad that he got up eventually and there seemed to be no problems after that, when I read it I started to worry but other than that an eventful day :)

    1. yep 5 flakes a day (4 A and 1 G).. CA bales are bigger then "normal" bales though :) Most horses here get 3-4 flakes a day so Henry gets a bit more then others :)

  12. The way you found him in the stall does sound worrying! O.O So glad he's alright. Wonder what that was about, though? o.0
I just love watching lesson videos! ^.^ But I was curious: why did you get so heavy with the whip when he spooked at the ground pole, instead of just giving him the benefit of the doubt like you did when he refused the jump (jump in vid 2, I think?)??

    1. Yep I am glad he is ok :) Like I said I think he might have gotten cast but he's totally ok now.

At the polls he was being a jerk and stopping at them, at the jump it was bad rider steering so i just pulled him up and came back to it- not his fault when I don't ride well but it is NOT ok to spook at polls. I understand that you aren't in my shoes (or saddle lol) so some things may be confusing but Henry has a dirty stop and he is NOT allowed to get away with it- esp since he is green. He came to me with this stop b/c someone "gave him the benefit of the doubt" and taught him that it was ok.. well it's not. We aren't jumping 7 ft high scary fences so there is no need to stop. When I say jump he should jump...

I work with the best trainer and I whole heartedly believe in what she does (she has been trained by the best, ridden with the best and comes from a family of amazing riders) so when she tells me to do something I do it.

    2. lol, that's why I leave sound out, to an outsider our trainer would sound scary but she knows how to work with greenies and she is just as quick to yell at you for over-correcting as under.
