Blanklets, Blankets and more Blankets!

Currently Henry has a good wardrobe but I really want another, more durable (I have a neck blanket but it's not going to hold up much longer) blanket with an attached neck.

Here are some options:

Rambo Med Weight

Riders International

Amigo Bravo 12 Plus

Rambo Plus Medium

Does anyone have an recommendations?

He is trace clipped..

He has the following blankets (I know I have a problem):
Big D Med Turnout (times 2 but one had lots of nice little holes from his bff Lou)
Big D No Fill Turnout (times 2 but one is really dead)
Smartpak High Neck Turnout- Med Weight
Smartpack Fleece Cooler
Baker Blanket
Baker Sheet (times 2)
Amigo Sheet (but in Navy and Red)
TuffRider blanket with a attached neck
Wool cooler that he came with
2 Coolers

I think that's it, that's all I can remember from the top of my head.. few!

  4. I fear I have a similar wardrobe for the beasts, but I too always suffer from being *convinced* there is something else they need... I have always shied away from full neck blankies, but am thinking this might be the year I break down and get one for Prair...

    1. Right! I like to have a back up if needed and a blanket for ever possible weather condition we might encounter :)

And since I clip, I have to make sure he is comfortable no matter what! lol

    2. You always need multiples in case of more than 24 hours of cold + wind + rain. Everyone knows that! ;D

  5. Holy blankets! I have a grand total of zero blankets and I live in Michigan! Just one cooler and that was a gift. Shy becomes a fuzzy beast in the winter and we don't work enough for a clip.

  6. Definitely go with a Rambo or Rhino. You should also look at the Bucas. I have their med weight that is their economy one and I love it. Like this one but its 150g http://www.applesaddlery.com/p-23567-bucas-irish-600d-50g-light-classic-blanket-blackgold.aspx

I just bought a midweight Rhino and it is probably tied for my fav with the Bucas.

Weatherbeetas are crap. They rub, they move, they rip. Waste of money.

    1. Ok good to know, I will check out the Bucas.. I am ok with 150g cause I can layer and CA doesn't get that cold. :)

  7. I personally have decided to go quality over quantity after many destroyed blankets and blanket rubs. A horse can only have so many clothes on at a time. For our weather we need to have a sheet, and a medium weight at the bare minimum. I personally opt for the neck cover with a full body clip bc I think that Houston is pretty sensitive to the cold. I didn't before last year and it made a big difference. And then he doesn't get as filthy either!

Our horses typically keep their turnouts on indoors but I do have these in addition to my 2 Rambos and the 200g liner to go up to a heavy turnout.

    Baker sheet
    Baker blanket
    Back On Track Blanket
    Back On Track Fleece/ cooler
    Rambo Newmarket Cooler
    Centaur Turbo Dry Cooler

I have a few bakers and a turnout that I still need to sell from other horses but I haven't been very on top of that. Hues wardrobe is full and nice but not too diverse :)

  8. I'd definitely go with the Rambo. I have a Rhino blanket that I've had for 5+ years and it's been awesome. Still waterproof and wearing well.

  9. Rambo, definitely. Quality over quantity as Hillary said. I have found Weatherbeetas to fit weird, not last long and not be worth the price, plus those tiny little six inch shoulder gussets most of them had would rub Connor to pieces - boy needs a big gusset for that big shoulder! I have heard really good things about the Dover ones too, but never tried one myself.

    Turnout
    Stable blanket
    Stable sheet
    Dress sheet

    Plus!:
    Back on Track cooler
Rambo Quarter sheet (which is my only monogrammed thing)

  14. I made the mistake of buying blankets like Weatherbeeta and Masta when I first got Stampede and wasted lots of money. They are fine if you horse goes out alone and doesn't act crazy outside, lol. Rambo is the way to go! Each of my boys has a Rambo stable sheet, turnout sheet, and midweight turnout blanket. I would love to get Stampede a 100g turnout too since he runs warm, so that will be on my Christmas list. Still considering a Rambo cooler as well because the boys are sharing a cooler currently. Oh the things I would buy if I won the lottery...

  15. If Rambos fit your horse well (as they do mine) then stick with Horseware. I have owned Amigos, Rhino and Rambos. I can say the Amigo runs smaller (butt cheeks hang out) and I found the Rhino and Rambo comparable. I sold my Amigo Bravo 12. The neck was shorter then the Rambo and butt cheeks - you also don't get the V clips in front if that matters. For the price I just get the Supremes (removable neck) even though I don't think I've ever taken the neck off since I full body clip. But at least I have the option and price is comparable. Also Med Supremes come with no fill necks and I read that necks should be lighter then blanket fill. Added bonus is you can also add liners (I don't do that either). I've ordered several blankets from Pinnacle - always best pricing (also ck their ebay - PinnacleHorseware). Also Rambos hold their value the best.

My one horse has 5 turnouts (2 lite, 3 med) (3 Rambo Supremes, 2 Rambo WUGs) and all of the Rambo Newmarket Stable blankets/coolers in Navy stripe (2 blankets, 1 cooler, 1 qtr) and a wool show blanket from Dover. I look at Baker stable blankets all the time but 1. Don't know if they will fit him nice 2. He never wears his stable blankets except for shows.

    You are not alone.

    1. SO he is a TB but not a lean/slender one. He can fit in a 78 but I prefer 80 so I have a little room in case I need to layer. I heard the Horsewear run large, do you find that true for all but just the Rambo/Rhino?

I would really prefer an attached neck .. ideally.

    3. I do know Rambo/Rhino run larger then Amigos which is why I sold my Amigo Bravo (fit at standstill, but then cheek/neck were short, only had a month). My horse measures a 75 and that's what his blankets are. Though he does wear a 72 in the Rambo flysheet (another 'blanket'!) because they do run big. My guy is long but slender (15.3h, 44" girth). I don't layer, but I feel I could easily add the thick Rambo fleece cooler underneath. I also owned 78s from prior horse, but they hung off his rump which is why I got 75s. Three inches is good jump in size. If you want to go up from 78 in Horseware, you have to jump to an 81. :/

The only non-Horseware I have is the Dover 'Wool Dress Sheet' in 75 and it fits perfectly. But a Kensington flysheet in Euro or Traditional cut in 74 was like 2 sizes too small at rump.

    4. Ok, I'll prob still go with an 81 so he has enough coverage.

Oh I have a Kensignton fly sheet too and an 80 barely fits!

  16. All of my blankets (medium weight) are Weatherbeeta. I have had good luck with them and they last. I think my oldest is 9 or 10 years old. My turnout sheets are all Rider's International and they have held up great too. I got desperate late year when I got my newest horse and bought an Amigo at the tack store (that's all they had) and I think the qualityis crap. I tend to layer when we have cooler weather here in FL by putting a baker sheet or blanket under the medium turnout.
