Happy Monday- HAHA

Hubby was off yesterday so I was able to get to the barn by 4:30 and on by 5:15 ish. I lunged Henry a little and he had a few bucks.. then I hopped on. I rode inside to try and stay out of the sun as I forgot sunblock. Henry was really squirmy and not straight. He was soft but man was he all over!!! My intent was to work on canter transitions so I stuck to that and added in straightness :)

There were other riders in the arena, going different directions- totally an awesome opportunity to really work on his listening to me and every "whisper" I say. As is expected with a greenie we had a little whos boss in the beginning but all in all he came around and worked well for me :)

Hack tonight, off tomorrow, hack Thursday, hack or off Friday and hack Saturday.

Watching the cute gray mare :)

  2. For my own education, what's the bridle set-up? And why are you using it? I guess I'm lucky - all of my horses have been snaffle and plain cavason types. ;) Although Charlie may break that mold as I'm considering putting him in a gag for our next XC run...

    1. It's a mikmar on a normal bridle with a flash. Henry is very heavy and this bit has really helped. As for tue flash- he loves to gape his mouth open haha. The bit really isn't that bad but it looks like we've got the whole world on ha!

So we school in this set up and show in a broken Segunda D ring.

    2. Cool - thx! I'm struggling to find something that has enough power to help shift Charlie's balance when galloping XC. I thought a three-ring elevator type bit would be the ticket but he soundly rejected that. I'm hoping the gag with two reins won't be as offensive. I can ride him in the KK but I don't think that will be an option as he gets fitter. :(

    3. I am super bad with bits (thank goodness for my awesome trainer and her knowledge ha)... I've always ridden in a snaffle or slow twist- but Henry is totally different. We are only a year into our training so I know that the days of this mikmar business are numbers and it won't be forever :) I've actually only been using it for like a month or two and it's worked wonders!

Good luck with Charlies bit adventure :)

    2. Huey says to tell Henry to keep his eyes off Libby... He's got "dibs on that filly" ;) haha. Huey always wants to make friends with this little appy mare that lives next to the cross ties but she soundly rejects him every day. Poor guy.
