LOVE a clean horse :)

Saturday didn't pan out as I would have liked, but sometimes life gets in the way. I had to go to a walk through at my daughters day cares new location so I didn't get to the barn till 9:45.

Sadly, I missed the lesson but still rode. I planned to just hack around and then decided to work on counter canter... Henry was a little opinionated so I called over my trainer to help. We had a mini lesson working on counter canter which was HARD work for us both but good work :)

Cooled us both out cause we were pooped!

Since all the lesson people were done in the wash racks, I decided to give Henry a good bath.. including man parts.

I scrubbed and scrubbed- body, legs (hind legs, gotta get that funk off), tail, man parts... his man parts get SO dirty! I do it once a week and always have SO MUCH to clean- is that what ya'll find too?!

I ordered some of this to see if it helps break up the grime in there easier...

I don't know about you all, BUT I love having a clean horse. It seriously makes me so happy! Especially after a hard but productive ride :)

I let Henry dry a little while I cleaned tack, made his grain and took him home.

Gave kisses, filled Henry and Louie's waters (it's been 100+ yuck) and headed home.

Sunday he got the day off... there is a new fire not far from the barn- ugh...

Praying that they get it under control soon! It doubled in size over night and is only 10% contained.

Monday is supposed to be a hack day but I just got a text that my trainer rode him so looks like I'll just be doing some chores tonight.

Lesson Tuesday, off Wednesday, hopefully a lesson Thursday, turn out Friday and a lesson Saturday.

  1. I use Farnam products and I love all of the products I've bought, hope it works for you!!

  2. Bobby stays pretty clean. I usually give him a thorough scrubbing every six months and even that might be overkill. Excalibur is a little too gunky and sloppy for my taste--I like Castille soap the best.

    1. I am using Castille right now and it works but i wish there was something that loosened the crud more.

Man Henry's man parts are always so dirty... weird!

  4. Excalibur works best if you can soak the man parts in warm water for a while to soften up the gunk, before you slather on the gel. I just jet the hose up in there - gently of course.

I've heard that oiling up the parts after cleaning will keep the gunk from sticking so hard... jury's still out on that one. I've also heard that some geldings are lazy pee-ers and get dirtier because they don't let down all the way...

    Hope the fire stays away.

    1. I typically do the cleaning after we ride so he's warm... is it sad that I am excited to try this stuff!? lol

He drops all the way down often, he is not ashamed of his man parts lol! Maybe he gets extra filthy b/c of his work schedule? Who knows lol!

  7. I have the vet do it... Cuna needed to be sedated for that anyways.

  8. He looks gorgeous! He's such a beautiful shade of chestnut. :)

And Apollo doesn't get too awful, and he lets down really easily (he's downright inappropriate!), so I don't really use anything but water. I've heard you can use KY jelly, too. Dunno.

  9. I've always used baby oil to help soften up the gunk on their man parts. Just squirt it on.

  10. Henry looks cute, as usual. Can't believe all the fires this year. There have been dozens all over my county this year and a huge one has been burning in the national park for over a week now. It was 80 % last time I checked, though.

  11. I use excalibur and get it up in there (Sam's a bit shy to relax) and let it soak for several minutes. Makes for really easy cleaning that way.

  12. Stampede is gross like that and loves to have his man parts cleaned too. I make sure to stick the hose up in there and spray around every time I hose him off so that he stays cleaner in the summer with minimal work. I use excalibur when I don't just use water and pick around. Definitely works best if you let it soak in. P on the other hand keeps his business pretty clean. He's more of a once a year kind of guy.

I hope they get the fire contained soon, very scary!
