Do you have a type of horse?
I don't mean a nice fancy one that is a 10 mover and jumper, cause umm yeah I want that too :)
What do you like, what don't you like, what are deal breakers?
I prefer:
A gelding
Tall, bigger
A pull ride
Something nice to look at
With a good work ethic, when I am in lessons I am all work work work and I need a horse who can get in that mindset too
Good brain
Brave
Henry's the best to my girls! |
OK i could go on but trying not to get too nit picky lol!
So share, tell me what you like!
I love your new banner!! Anyways, I'm not as particular about the details, it's more like I have to feel comfortable and "fit" on the horse. But in general I need a quieter horse who can take a lot of jokes. A smooth jump is also key.
ReplyDeleteGood brain is my #1, I'm not going to the olympics or anything so although fancy is nice it isn't really my priority. I am 6 feet tall so something tall is a given! I have a soft spot for draft Xs and TBs
ReplyDelete.
I like your list! :)
I prefer geldings. Any color that isn't chestnut or white/cremello. Must be a pull ride; I hate lazy/poky horses. Decently mentally with it/not explosive. Must be friendly. I used to really want tall, but I like the 15.2 now since my back issues make mounting difficult.
ReplyDeleteI prefer a gelding around 16-16.1, a push ride, quiet, can take a joke brave to the fences, and I love round, broader horses... no slab sided horses for me!
ReplyDeleteLove that pic of Henry with your daughter :) I love my Riva Diva - but if I could have whatever I wanted, I would chose a lovey gelding who loves to be groomed, 15.2 ish, lots of chrome, who was quiet enough to take out trail riding but suitable for dressage and small jumps.
ReplyDeleteMy answer has changed over time. I kind of prefer mares which makes me certifiable. I like something forward but not stupid or constantly spooky. It needs to be kind enough for my step daughter who is six to hang around. Great question :)
ReplyDelete16.3-17.1, gelding, push ride, good brain, cuddly, easy keeper, solid/round build, good ground manners, honest to fences, 100% sound, quiet in new places, grey ;)
ReplyDeleteOoo that is a hard/fun question. I love riding around on my easy usually level headed quarter horse types, but I also enjoy the quirky weird and brave thoroughbred type. Mares. Good thing I own both of those options!
ReplyDeleteI love big, red horses. The more chrome the better. I'm just drawn to them. Personality wise, I like something that isn't super lazy, but has a brain. Work ethic+brain is wonderful! haha
ReplyDeleteI like geldings on the short side (preferably max 15.3/16hh), lots of white markings, preferably a pretty bright colour (chestnut, palomino, bright bay). I want them to be affectionate, easy to load/feet/clip/worm etc
ReplyDeleteI like mares, but a gelding isn't a deal breaker. Forward, but not spooky/silly/prone to panicking. Honest, smart, and wanting to please too. Nothing over 15hh or so, built to last, and I'm a sucker for a dark bay with a pretty face. What I have: Backwards thinking 14hh bay mare. Hates work. Smart, but uses it against you. Safe, brave, and cute with a funny sense of humor so I forgive her anything.
ReplyDeleteMy type is very similar to yours! I used to think I liked the push ride, but that's not the case at all.
ReplyDeleteGelding, <16 hands, forward but not crazy, able to have fun with things like bareback riding and trail rides, comfortable to sit, no vices or naughty behavior
ReplyDeleteOoh, I'll bite!! I prefer: small (like we're talking 15.2hh and under! Hony/ponies are best. I happen to enjoy the little ones and equate them to sports cars), gimme ALL THE CHROME, uphill build, and short backed. Forward, hot type of ride but I don't want anything explosive and even borderline dangerous at this point in my life. Good brain, good work ethic. Must like trails is getting higher and higher on the list, because my current one is wildly hit or miss about them.
ReplyDeletei like an honest horse that tries. prefer a pull ride and something a little bigger than what i have now haha. pretty vague for now, but will probably get a lot more specific when i eventually actually start horse shopping :)
ReplyDeleteHmmmmm, big bodied, nice ground manners, taller than 16hh, good with kids/family/pets, push ride OR can handle a few days off without evicting rider on next ride.
ReplyDeletePrefer gelding but I do love my mare ;) 14-16hh, I can appreciate forward but it needs to be brave forward not pissy or nervous forward. I have enough nerves for the pair of us. Would love a horse that can just be pulled out after a few days off and will pack my kiddos when they are bigger. Love grey, palomino, paint, chestnut or bay if lots of chrome (clearly not a deal breaker lol).
ReplyDeleteI like big horses and prefer mares; I ridden several good mares and I ride a good mare now. I'm not to picky about colors-there isn't a color I don't like. Also a good brain is preferable, though I do like horses that have a little personality and aren't too mellow.
